Dear all
It has come to our attention that there have been incidents where the ownership of the vehicle has been transferred and the motor insurance of the vehicle has been cancelled. However, in some cases, the new owner has not secured a new motor insurance for the vehicle.
We wish to remind drivers that it is an offence to drive a vehicle in Singapore without valid motor insurance. Under the Road Traffic Act, all vehicles must be insured against third-party liability before being driven on public roads.
Failure to comply with this requirement may result in severe penalties, including fines, suspension of driving privileges, or the impounding of the vehicle.
What You Need to Know:
New Owners’ Responsibility: Upon transferring ownership of a vehicle, the new owner must ensure that the vehicle is properly insured before driving it.
Lapsed Insurance: If the motor insurance policy has expired or lapsed, the vehicle is not covered and must not be driven until a new insurance policy is in place.
Legal Consequences: Driving without insurance is a violation of Singapore’s traffic laws and can lead to serious consequences, including legal action.
We strongly urge all car owners and drivers to check their insurance status regularly and ensure
continuous coverage, especially when there is a change in ownership.
Stay Safe and Drive Responsibly
